Silicone bakeware has been on my wish list for a while. I recently got to test out a silicone muffin pan by OvenArt.
I had a box of red velvet cake and a can of cream cheese frosting in my pantry - YUM! The silicone muffin pan makes 12 cupcakes, which is half of the cake mix. I used my traditional, metal cupcake pan to cook the remaining batter.
I coated both pans with a bit of non-stick cooking spray. The silicone pan is extremely flexible, the package directions from OvenArt say to place the muffin pan on a cookie sheet or baking pan for stability.
I cooked the cupcakes according to the cake package's directions which was around 16 minutes for the mini-muffins in the metal pan and about 18 minutes for the full-sized muffins in the silicone pan.
Both batches of cupcakes came out perfect. The difference in the 2 pans is how easy they clean up. The cupcakes in the metal pan stuck a bit, I had to soak the pan in water for 20 minutes before scrubbing it clean. The silicone muffin pan clean up was a breeze. I flipped the pan over a large serving plate and all the cupcakes came out with no sticking problems. I rinsed out the pan using a bit of warm soapy water - no soaking, no scrubbing!
I also like how light weight the silicone pan is compared to a regular metal muffin pan. The OvenArt muffin pan comes in a bright red, which is one of my kitchen colors. I might just leave it on my kitchen counter, as a decorative accent, instead of storing it in my cupboard.
