As some of
you might remember, my wife Lynn and I have been involved with the Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program since 2006. Team in Training
is the main fundraising program for the Leukemia Society. We have just started
training for our 5th century bike ride through the Palm Beach
chapter of Team in Training.
On November
20, 2010, we will be participating in the 28th El Tour de Tucson, a
109 mile road bike ride which takes place in Tucson, Arizona. I am happy to
announce that I am the Tucson cycle team coach, and Lynn will be a member of
the team. Each member of the cycle team has made a pledge to raise a minimum of
$3,500 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a non-profit charity that conducts research
towards cures, and helps ease the burden of those battling blood cancers such
as leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, lymphoma and myeloma. The society also helps to
improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
I went
through my own battle with cancer in 2009. What was misdiagnosed as kidney
stones for many months, was finally determined to be bladder cancer. I underwent
surgery in October, followed by immunotherapy treatments. We are happy to report,
as of the beginning of January, 2010 I am cancer free!
Please
consider making a donation to support our participation in Team in Training,
and help advance the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission. You may make a
donation by visiting our fundraising website which is located at: http://pages.teamintraining.org/pb/tucson10/lsmythe.
You may
contact us for further information by sending an email to either Rob, [email protected], or to
Lynn, [email protected]. Lynn is a
freelance writer, she will be adding details of our training program and
fundraising efforts, as we prepare for Tucson, to the Bike Diva website: www.bikediva.net.
We
volunteer our time with Team in Training, to help save lives, one mile at a
time.
