Bicycles Recalled by Nirve Sports; Stem Failure Poses Fall Hazard
WASHINGTON, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Consumer
Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below,
today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product.
Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless
otherwise instructed.
Name of product: Cannibal Bicycles
Units: About 120
Importer: Nirve Sports Ltd., of Huntington Beach, Calif.
Hazard: The bicycle stem can crack and cause the rider to lose control, posing a risk of serious injury if the rider falls.
Incidents/Injuries: Nirve Sports has received two reports of cracked
stems. In both cases, the cracks occurred during assembly of the
bicycle. No injuries have been reported.
Description: This recall involves Cannibal "Chopper" model bicycles
with graphic designs by artist Corey Miller. The bicycles have a black
matte finish. The affected bicycles have a serial number within the
following range: L8E0300001 - L8E1001050. Serial numbers are located on
the bottom of the bicycle between the pedals.
Sold by: Nirve Sports and authorized dealers nationwide from December 2008 through April 2009 for about $600.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding the bicycles and return them to the place of purchase for free repair.
